Welcome to the Hub

Page Hargrave Peyser

Welcome to the Hub, where I reach out to my friends and try to coordinate many things at the same time. Sometimes it works - other times not. This is called the Hub because I plan to point in many directions to things that I find interesting.

One thing I like is music. In college - Randolph-Macon Woman's College, class of 1970, in Lynchburg, Virginia - I majored in music theory and composition, and minored in math. Writing and playing music are part of my creative outlets.

The piano has been part of my life since I was seven, when I started taking piano lessons. Music has been in my family as far back as I can research. My great-aunt Lula John Anderson was the pianist and organist for our church - Liberty Methodist Church, in Dolphin, Virginia. The church where my family belonged no longer exists, but the cemetery is still at the top of the hill.

Lula's music is now in my home. I have music from all my piano studies, organ and clarinet studies, teaching music in Campbell County, Va, and collected and written ever since then, so I have a lot of music here at home.

A piece of my music called Going Away is part of a short play in verse, structured like a Greek Tragedy. The complete title of the play is "Going Away - Words from History...Pain from Life ...Love & Joy Now." There are two roles in the play, the Declarer and the Chorus. The Chorus sings its role, with music I composed. It is posted at the Finale website  where you can find it by searching for "Going Away."

Going Away (c) 2009 was performed on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Gayton Kirk (Presbyterian Church USA.) 11421 Gayton Road, Henrico VA 23238. Tickets were free. Donations benefited Safe Harbor Shelter in Richmond VA.

You can get in touch with the Kirk by telephone (804) 741-5254 or by email TheGaytonKirk@yahoo.com

Stone Carving

Beautiful Turtle is made of jade green alabaster from Mexico. He was hand carved in Maranantha Studio, where  Claudia Rees was my teacher. Turtle took a bit more than a year to complete with three hour classes every week.

Clay work,  hand-built ceramics and pottery, are a big part of my life. My class is at the VMFA Studio School, where Steven Glass is the instructor. Steven is the Resident Potter of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Other types of art work make me happy too. The Tri Club Art Group is a wonderful group of artists who like to create excellent art, go to lunch for birthdays, and generally have a really good time together. We are all members of The Tri Club Woman's Club.  Shirley Spangler is our teacher. We meet on Monday from 1:30 - 3:30 pm at the Gayton Kirk (Presbyterian Church USA) 11421 Gayton Road, Henrico VA 23238 (804) 741-5254. We generally meet from late September through March or early April. (the beginning of golf season.)  Fall semester started Monday, Sept. 26, 2011. Second semester starts Monday, January 9, 2012.

And I love computers - except  when something  is causing problems.
